I hope that everyone has had a great 2012 so far. It’s been a time of action and change for me, and I can’t wait to see what else the new year has in store for me!

I’ve finally bitten the bullet and set up a temporary online store where you can see what I am up to and shop for your new favorite Kim Culture pieces. In the coming months, the site should allow for easier check-out with a simple credit card number input option. For now, you may need to create and account and have access to Paypal. If you find an item that you like and would prefer not to go through the process of creating and account, just send me a message (jenny@kimculture.com) and include a link to the item(s) you like – I can easily send you an invoice that you can pay just by using any credit card.

New Event TONIGHT!

The Firehouse Art Collective is an unique non-profit group based in the East Bay that cares about creating a community and culture for artists of all disciplines. They provides affordably-priced living and working spaces for artists, and they regularly and passionately host bazaars and art shows which allow community members to feature their work to the general public as well as Firehouse patrons.

Tom Franco and Julia Lazar have an infectious enthusiasm and boundless creativity … I’m eager to lend them my support in furthering their endeavors on behalf of Bay Area artists!

The Firehouse Art Collective is debuting their new space at the Emeryville Public Market tonight when they host an artist and makers bazaar in conjunction with the grand opening of the new Guitar Center flagship store. Their new permanent space will be filled to the brim with artists and artisans (including yours truly) who are presenting their own work for display and sale.

The event runs from 5pm to midnight, so there is plenty of time to stop by after/before work to view, touch, taste and buy original works from their creators. Bring your whole family and enjoy a celebration of music, art and food at the Emeryville Public Market! See you tonight!!

Upcoming Event: San Francisco’s Union Street Eco-Urban Festival

Hard to believe it’s Spring already, but here we are again!

In its 35th year, The Union Street Festival is one of San Francisco’s largest free annual events, and Kim Culture will be there again next weekend. My location is different from the last two years, but it’s not too far away.

WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, June 4th & 5th, 10am – 6pm

Kim Culture still uses the finest gemstones and pearls, still sources materials domestically, and all of the pieces are still handmade in San Francisco by me!

Kim Culture at Russian River Wine Road’s Winter Wineland!!

Happy new year to all! I hope that 2011 has been treating you great so far!

If you are still in the holiday mood and looking for a great way to enjoy this weekend’s sunny weather, come out to the Russian River Valley and see me at Martin Ray Winery in Santa Rosa.

The Russian River Wine Road is holding it’s 19th Annual Winter Wineland, and Martin Ray Winery is featuring me as their artist during this weekend-long event! Winter Wineland is a great opportunity for wine-lovers to meet winemakers and taste special releases, limited production and library wines.

Martin Ray Winery is one of my very favorites in the Russian River Valley, and I’m so honored to be showing my work in their tasting room! The staff is incredibly friendly, the winery is gorgeous, and the wines are stellar.

New “old” products at Fogbelt Studio THIS WEEKEND ONLY!

I have been revisiting my love for textiles and buttons recently. In particular, I have found some attractive vintage upholstery fabrics that have terrified me with their cuteness. Not sure if anyone else gets this way about a prized new crafty resource, but I get a little petrified before I start cutting and creating … I want to do these textiles justice, so I get a teeny bit scared that I’m going to make a mistake. What I’ve come to realize, though, is that I have to push through this fear and just get crackin’ already! After all, what I do is not life-altering should I unintentionally make something hideous.

This weekend I will be featuring a new collection of products that I created, inspired and created by vintage and repurposed textiles, buttons, wool thread, and zippers. I’m the type of person who doesn’t like items in my home (no matter how fabulous!) that just sit around and collect dust, so I did my best to come up with functional products: key fobs, cosmetics bags, pencil cases, magnets (these are beautiful, so I’ll try to snap some pictures), and jewelry. By “we”, I really mean you since San Francisco doesn’t seem to really have the typical four seasons, but I can only imagine the beautiful changing leaves in other parts of the country. Vintage Aurora Borealis Button Ring

Last spring, I came across a precious stash of vintage brass and rhinestone buttons that I couldn’t put down. I had been toying with the idea of combining vintage elements with my usual creative tools (sterling silver, goldfill, gemstones, pearls, etc.) to fabricate new favorites from (almost) forgotten materials, but I was waiting for the buttons to speak to me and tell me what they wanted to be this time around.

Rain, rain, go away…

For anyone who ventured out to Bernal Heights today in search of a festive atmosphere and great deals on Kim Culture jewelry, my sincerest apologies to you! I did my best sunshine dance while driving across San Francisco this morning, but it seems not to have “stuck”. Around 10am, the dark skies opened up and released it’s damp and chilly wrath upon Fiesta on the Hill. In order to protect my jewelry from the elements, I made the heart-breaking decision to pack it up and call it a day before the buckets of rain started to dump on me and my protegee. I’m so disappointed that this event didn’t pan out – I was excited to debut my latest creation: Greek leather bracelets created with vintage buttons and antique wool embroidery floss.

I will let you know where to find me next, though – this isn’t the last that you’ve seen of Kim Culture! Hopefully, though, next time I will be INDOORS in a well-heated venue.
